Thai police are investigating the shooting death of a 31-year-old Burmese man, Aung Thet Moe, shortly after his arrival at Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi International Airport on a business trip.
A Thai police officer, Udon Nan Charoen, was arrested in connection with the death and was later freed on payment of 100,000 baht (US $3,000) bail.
The Thai daily newspaper Thai Rath reported that Aung Thet Moe, an Indian companion and the police officer had become involved in a heated argument as they drove away from the airport.
Aung Thet Moe, whose parents live in Loikaw Township, Karenni State, was employed by a Singapore company, Boiler Master Asia Ltd.
Aung Thet Moe’s funeral took place on Wednesday.
The Burmese embassy in Bangkok refused to comment on the case when contacted by The Irrawaddy.
